Fitting a security chain

It is no good fitting strong locks if an intruder can barge into your house as soon as you open the door. Any Crime Prevention Officer will tell you that it is imperative to fit a simple security chain that will allow you to open the door just enough to identify a caller without compromising your security.

One end of the chain is screwed securely to the door frame. The other end latches into a fixing plate attached to the door. Some security devices are made with a sliding bar instead of a chain.

Screw the chain just below the lock so that it is convenient to reach when you go to answer the door.
